CLEANING OF TEETH
Cleaning of teeth is just doesn't mean cleaning of teeth, it's more than that. Well bad looking teeth is the reason patient come in dental clinic, but after treatment they get bonus with healthy gums in relation to teeth.
You must have wondered, what are those stains and deposits on teeth that are very hard to remove from simple brushing.
Food debris, Plaque, stains and Calculus. These are four things that are being removed while cleaning of teeth. Let's see one by one each of them.
1) Food debris.
As the name indicate food debris are nothing but small food particles which stuck in between teeth. If not cleaned properly they will rot and decay eventually cause bad smell. Further bacteria will make home there and start decay in nearby teeth.
Treatment: Proper brushing, flossing and rinsing will remove food debris easily.
2) Plaque.
Plaque is a sticky deposit on teeth in which bacteria proliferate or grows. Plaque always in process of formation on teeth, if you don't remove it by brushing your teeth, then it will continue to grow and in future definitely cause problems.
Treatment: Regular brushing will keep the plaque at bay.
3) Stains.
Stains can be of two types:
1: Intrinsic 2: Extrinsic
1: Intrinsic stains are caused by systemic condition of body. It's treatment called teeth bleaching.
2: Extrinsic stains are caused foreign substance adhere to teeth in time. It's treatment is scaling.
4) Calculus or Tartar
Calculus or tartar is a form of hardened dental plaque. It is caused by precipitation of minerals from saliva in plaque on the teeth. It appears as yellowish deposits on teeth near gums.
Treatment: Hear regular brushing will not remove calculus, only at dental clinic by scaling it can be removed.
Suppose due to some reason patient have no time for tartar removal treatment and allowed it to grow. Then slowly and eventually it will replace the supporting structures of teeth, which are gums and underlying bones. And teeth will become loose and in time fall one by one.
Lost bone and gums will not regrow, even if calculus is removed.But then also get cleaned your teeth, the sooner the better.
Damage is done to supporting structures, but then also there are surgical procedures to gain your healthy gums and bones. But you know surgery means more money, time, indication and contraindications.
So just go have a dental check up get your teeth cleaned.

Even if you get your teeth cleaned, doctor will say to you that this is only half treatment. Rest of the care should be done by you with proper brushing technique and flossing. Otherwise plaque, Calculus and stains will return in no time.
