NORMAL TEETH
Before knowing many abnormalities of teeth and surrounding structures, first let see what is a normal teeth and it's supporting structures. To explain that I have to show you the image of a normal single tooth in its most simplest form so that everyone can understand.
These are the pictures of teeth that we see normally everyday.
Now let's take all teeth out of the mouth, then we will able to see another half part of the teeth "Root".
We only see upper part of teeth which is called "crown", the lower part which is "root" is inside the jaw. Well, now it's time to see what does tooth look like from inside. It's simple, inside it contains only three parts:
(1) outer hard part- enamel
(2) middle less hard part- dentin
(3) inner soft part blood supply- pulp
As you can see in the picture enamel, dentin and pulp, now here pulp is shown with 3 colour of supply. Red and blue are arteries and veins respectively. While white colour inside the pulp is nerve supply, and this nerve supply takes the pain sensation to the brain (OUR TORMENTOR).
All these blood and nerve supply to the teeth goes inside the pulp through a small opening at the tip of the root (As you can see in picture).
That's it, this is all you have to about tooth. Also there are 2 supporting structures of the tooth.
(1) Bone
(2) Gums
Done. This is all you have to know as a patient.
Ok then I ll see you people in next topic-
